Love triangle at the centre of UK stabbing

Unrequited love is said to be at the centre of the stabbing of Hyderabadi student Praveen Reddy in London on Friday evening. The 26-year-old man was stabbed and critically wounded allegedly by fellow Indian students, apparently all of them his childhood friends from Hyderabad, after a brawl broke out at a party at his flat in Newham, a suburb of London. The London Metropolitan Police said on Sunday that they have so far charged three Indians with attempt to murder. They are: Amareshwar Arava, 25, Sai Kishore Balguri, 25 and Nishant Puttapaka, 23, all Hyderabadis. The three will appear at the Thames Magistrates’ court on Monday, police said.Praveen Reddy’s family, who live in L B Nagar in Hyderabad, said they have been informed by Scotland Yard detectives that the stabbing was the outcome of a quarrel Praveen Reddy had with another student who was his rival for the love of a woman, also from Hyderabad. The family said a detective named Tracy told them that Praveen Reddy had become interested in a girl who, however, preferred his friend Charan. The family learnt that on Friday, the entire Hyderabadi group of friends assembled at Praveen Reddy’s Kent Street flat to celebrate Charan’s birthday. The woman was there too. While the party was in progress, there was friction between Charan and Praveen Reddy. As things heated up, the latter reportedly beat up Charan with the lid of a rice cooker, and Charan and three others hit back, stabbing Praveen with a knife. After the incident, Charan and the girl fled the spot.Doctors found eight stab wounds on Praveen Reddy’s chest and stomach, and performed a 12-hour long surgery. His condition is said to be critical.Praveen Reddy was studying for an MBA degree at the London School of Business. All the people involved in the episode are said to be his childhood friends with whom he went to Dilsukhnagar Public School in Hyderabad.Charan’s parents live at Chaitanyapuri in the city.Praveen Reddy’s father J Sudhakar Reddy left for London Sunday evenin.
